He was born in Golcuk in 1934. Golcuk is a beautiful town by the Marmara Sea near Izmit, Turkey.

Being near the sea encouraged him to paint pictures of the sea and the ships that sail across it.

He became influenced by the work of painting art when he was just a little boy. As he grew older he started to become more talented in way of painting.

Until 1992 he used the technique of oil colors painting. After 1992 he used the technique of water color and gouache.

He does not paint direct from nature he relies on memory alone an plus his imaginations. Color plays a more important part in his compositions.

Altan Ozkaragoz is known as an affectionate and lively person among his friends worked in Turkish Foreign Trade Bank where he served for years.

He worked as Administrative Trainee in the Istanbul Hilton Hotel in 1956 for 18 months. He performed his military duty in Korea as a Liaison Officer from 1958 till 1959.

He started his banking career in 1963 at the Turkiye Is Bankasi and then in 1966 transferred to Turkish Foreign Trade Bank Istanbul Branch. After working in various positions he was appointed as assistant manager of main branch in Istanbul.

Following his retirement he continued his banking career at Istanbul Main Office of Standard Charted Bank between 1985 and 1989 as Export-Import Manager from 1989 till 1992 served as Foreign Trade Manager in the United Investment Bank that he assisted its foundation

Altan Ozkaragoz is married and has three children. All his family is interested in painting art. He is still painting and he says he will keep painting as long as he lives.
